Jiménez de Aréchaga led the acquisition of this
important supermarket chain in Uruguay.
The agreement consisted of the acquisition of 100% of the
shareholding in Tienda Inglesa, and included all the real
estate owned by the sellers. The deal closed after several months
of negotiations with the sellers, mainly members of the
Henderson family. This family owned the business for three
generations.
"It should be noted that this was a very much expected
deal in the Uruguayan business community, given that several
investors throughout the last two decades had expressed their
willingness to acquire Tienda Inglesa, including very well-known
multinational companies and private investors. However, all
these attempts were trumped. This implied very hard work
on the part of the buyers, negotiating both with the majority
and the minority shareholders, in order to serve the purpose
of the buyer to acquire 100% of the shares in the company. This
deal had the additional particularity that the multiparty sellers
had different bargaining positions and different demands, and this
entailed for us having to deal with individual emotions
and personal issues that always arise when such an important
family business is sold after several years of successful activity
in the country", said Nicolas Herrera.
Once again we thank the trust that the new owners of Tienda
Inglesa have deposited in our firm in order to deal this
important acquisition.
