Currently, any foreign employee or foreign national who wants to apply to live and work in Belgium must make two separate applications to the Belgium government. First, they must obtain a work permit or a professional card and then subsequently apply for a right of residence (residence permit). However, by the end of 2018, applicants will only be required to make one all-encompassing application to be known as the Single Permit.
