Guernsey Finance will update the local finance industry on progress made in 2018 and plans for next year at its annual Industry Update, to be held on Thursday 24 January.

The island's finance industry made progress in several key areas in 2018, including launching Guernsey Green Finance, aimed at positioning the island as a global financial specialist centre at the forefront of developments in green and sustainable finance, promoting its global distribution capabilities in investment funds, and developing the recently-announced policy framework to develop and support the growth of the sector.

Miles Celic, Chief Executive of TheCityUK – the representative body which champions the UK-based financial and related professional services industry – also returns as keynote speaker for the event to offer a broader overview of the business and political climate in financial services nationally after a tumultuous year.

Guernsey Finance speakers will include Chief Executive Dominic Wheatley; Deputy Chief Executive, Strategy, Dr Andy Sloan; Deputy Chief Executive Kate Clouston, and Marketing Director Barnaby Molloy. They will update stakeholders on the agency's activities in business development, strategy, PR and communications and marketing.

"Last year's update was our most comprehensive yet and the response was excellent, with our highest-ever attendance by some distance. It demonstrates the engagement we are seeing with our industry colleagues as stakeholders in our activities, and an increased interest in how we are promoting their services and the island in our chosen markets," Mr Wheatley said.

"Last year was also the first time we invited a keynote speaker, which proved very popular, so we are delighted to welcome Miles back.

"We made great strides in 2018, especially in the area of green finance, and we look forward to updating our members and encouraging them to engage with us further."

The Guernsey Finance Industry Update takes place at St James Concert & Assembly Hall, St Peter Port, on Thursday 24 January. Registration opens at 2.30pm for a 3pm start. More info and registration: https://www.weareguernsey.com/finance-events/2019/guernsey-finance-industry-update-2019/.
