The Omani Copyright Law was promulgated by Royal Decree No.47/ 96 of June 8, 1996 and the issuance of the implementingregulations in 1998. Oman is a party to the BerneConvention as of July 1999.

The Law grants protection to authors of literary, artistic and scientific works whatever the value, kind or purpose or way of expression of the work. Generally, the protection will be provided for the works whose means of expression is writing, sound, drawing, image or motion picture. It also will include creative titles and computer software which are published, acted or displayed for the first time in the Sultanate of Oman.
