On 1 and 2 November 2019, the Ukrainian American Bar Association (UABA) held its 42nd Annual Conference in Washington, DC. The conference was dedicated to the topic "The tenacity of Ukraine's democracy: overcoming obstacles and aggression" and gathered a broad range of experts, including Honorary Judge Bohdan Futey; he was a consultant to the working group on Ukraine's Constitution and Ukrainian Parliament, and made a valuable contribution to the development of the Ukrainian Constitution. Amongst the other speakers were John E. Herbst, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, John Didiuk, director of the International Project Finance Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), Michelle Small, director and head of EBRD Representative Office in North America, Dr. Stephen Blank, Senior Fellow at the American Foreign Policy Council, Glen E. Howard, President of the Jamestown Foundation, Myroslava Gongadze, Chief of the Ukrainian Service at the Voice of America, and others.

UABA is a national bar association created in 1977 whose members are U.S. judges, attorneys and law students of Ukrainian descent, and those American attorneys with an interest in Ukrainian matters. UABA continues to be a strong voice in supporting Ukraine's democracy, its democratic and economic reforms.

Olexiy Soshenko, managing partner and head of the Banking and Finance practice of Redcliffe Partners, was a speaker in the panel discussion "US/Ukraine Relations and the Impact on Law in Ukraine". His presentation was dedicated to an overview of the investment opportunities – and challenges – in Ukraine. In particular, he described opportunities for investment in the oil & gas sector, including production sharing agreements, online concession auctions and production enhancement contracts, as well as the state support mechanism for renewables, concession projects in the infrastructure sector and the contemplated opening of the land market.
