The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment, Dr David Boyd, presented his report on good practices related to the recognition and implementation of the right to a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday 2 March 2020.

The report is the result of the collaboration of the Vance Center in New York, with the international law firm Clifford Chance, which conducted and co-ordinated a major international pro-bono project on behalf of Dr David Boyd. The effort involved conducting a global survey to determine which of the 193 UN Member States recognize the human right to a healthy environment at either the national, or sub-national, level under domestic law. Elias Neocleous & Co LLC was privileged to be chosen to be the reporting law firm for Cyprus. Our associates Elena Riga and Ioannis Sidiropoulos worked on the relevant reports and provided valuable information and analysis on the relevant aspects of the Cyprus legal framework.

We are pleased to have worked with Clifford Chance to carry out this unparalleled multijurisdictional research. We hope that the report will fuel the discussion about global environmental and human rights, and, that it will contribute to improving the protection of the fundamental principles of environmental law. Our firm remains committed to the protection of human rights and the environment, always trying to ensure that our operations and policies reflect responsible business and sustainable practices.
