Palo Alto – September 2, 2020 – People Magazine has named Cooley to its annual 50 Companies That Care list, which, in 2020, recognizes the top US companies supporting their employees and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The feature underscores Cooley's ongoing commitment to pro bono work, especially during the pandemic, highlighting its efforts to help secure the release of medically compromised detained immigrants and their children in facilities where COVID-19 is spreading. The publication further points to the firm's work providing to elderly and chronically ill federal prisoners, filing requests for compassionate release and helping tenants unable to pay rent due to loss of income from the pandemic shutdown.

"We are here to help our clients in these trying times," said Joe Conroy, Cooley's chairman and chief executive officer. "We take to heart our profound and enduring commitment to the health and well-being of all of our people, our clients and our communities around the world."

People partners with Great Place to Work to compile the rankings, which are based on surveys representing more than 4.8 million employees' experiences of how their workplaces have made a difference in their lives and in their communities. The rankings reflect Great Place to Work's assessment of the generosity of each organization's benefits, philanthropic and community support, with a particular focus this year on activities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cooley gives 60,000+ pro bono hours annually to empower individuals to seek justice and opportunity, provide nonprofit organizations the tools they need to effect change and support the economic development of underserved communities. The American Bar Association has recognized Cooley's considerable efforts, honoring the firm with its prestigious Pro Bono Publico award for dedication to providing pro bono legal services in marginalized communities.
