On May 2nd, 2017, Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) announced the results of the 1st Open Season auction of Pemex Logística for the Baja California and Sonora Systems.

The process began on December 20th, 2016 with the acceptance of corresponding applications from parties interested in participating and- on last March 10th of this year. The participants presented their financial bids for reserving storage and pipeline transport capacity. However, it was later decided that the auction was to be repeated with certain adjustments to the capacity awarding process on April 12th, 2017, carrying out the auction, once more, from April 28th to May 2nd.

Out of the twenty-two companies that participated, seven of them provided guarantees. However, the only winner was Tesoro Mexico Supply & Marketing (Tesoro), an American company, which was awarded storage and transport capacity for three years for the above-referred Systems (as shown below).

It is to be noted that Tesoro will pay a rate that is above the minimum tariff established by Pemex and the Energy Regulatory Commission as consideration for such capacity.
