A leading international female footballer has applied to register her image rights in Guernsey.

Arsenal and England footballer Jordan Nobbs, pictured left, is following in the footsteps of Manuel Pellegrini, the Manager of Manchester City, in applying to register her image rights in Guernsey. The Island is the first jurisdiction globally to introduce specific image rights legislation and a register.

The application was made to the Guernsey Registry on 4 November by Jose Luis Romanillos of Romanillos & Cook Image Rights Limited (www.romanillosandcook.com).

Mr Romanillos said: "Women's football is developing rapidly in the UK and there is growing interest among both the public and the media. Unfortunately for the professional female players, their earnings are nowhere near the levels of their male counterparts.

"Jordan Nobbs is currently playing at the very highest level of her profession but has yet to make any significant financial gain from her career. The registration of her image rights has been done purely to help her protect her brand and image, should it develop, from abuse in the future by third parties trying to exploit her image for commercial gain without her approval. It also serves as a way to promote women's football in general as this registration is in the public domain."

Miss Nobbs, 20, is a central midfielder who played for Sunderland before moving to Arsenal and has gone on to be a regular in the England squad. She is sponsored by ESRG Marketing.

In applying to register her image rights in Guernsey, she joins a growing list of personalities including not just Mr Pellegrini but also Guess model Megan Williams, GB tennis star Heather Watson, boxer Bradley Saunders and internationally renowned DJs Tiesto and Afrojack.
