On April 2, 2018, Jason E. Kearns was sworn in as the newest Commissioner at the International Trade Commission ("ITC"). Commissioner Kearns was originally nominated by President Obama in January 2017, but, when President Obama left office, Kearns' nomination was withdrawn. President Trump then nominated him again in June of 2017.
Before joining the ITC, Commissioner Kearns served as Chief International Trade Counsel on the Democratic staff of the House Ways and Means Committee. He has also worked as Assistant General Counsel of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, taught classes in international trade law at American University and practiced law at Mayer Brown and WilmerHale.
Commissioner Kearns received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Denver, his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, and a Master of Public Policy degree from Harvard University.
With the addition of Commissioner Kearns, the ITC now has five Commissioners. One commissioner seat remains vacant.
The USITC is headed by six Commissioners. They are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. No more than three Commissioners may be of any one political party.
