Significant changes to WA's security of payment legislation foreshadowed in October are now law.

On 22 November 2016, the bill effecting amendments to the Construction Contracts Act 2004 (WA) was passed by the Legislative Assembly. The amendments come into effect on 15 December 2016. The only change to the bill from October is that the minimum time for payment has been reduced from 50 days to 42 days rather than the 30 days originally provided in the bill. The new 42 day limit for payment of a claim will apply to contracts entered into after 3 April 2017.
