AHPRA successfully prosecutes fake Queensland
chiropractor
AHPRA has successfully prosecuted a man in Queensland for unlawful
use of the protected title 'chiropractor' and holding out
as a registered health practitioner. Following an investigation,
AHPRA filed charges against Mr Zaphir in March 2017 alleging six
offences in contravention of sections 113 and 116 of the Health
Practitioner Regulation National Law (06 February 2018).

Queensland Health 'too slow' to act on suicide
prevention guidelines
Mental Health Commissioner Ivan Frkovic said Queensland Health was
too slow, in "some cases", in taking recommendations from
coroners and using them in practical mental health care to reduce
suicide (10 February 2018).

Mother sues doctors and hospital over delayed cancer
diagnosis
Jodie Elisara says a doctor diagnosed her bowel cancer almost by
accident, eight years after she was hit with painful symptoms. The
young mother of three lodged a $1 million medical negligence claim
in the Supreme Court in Brisbane against three doctors as well as
the Redcliffe Hospital, north of Brisbane. Originally, she says
doctors told her it was only haemorrhoids (04 February 2018).

AHPRA: Psychologists: beware of hoax
email
Psychologists are warned that a hoax email is being sent which
pretends to be from AHPRA. The email, targeting some registered
psychologists, is sent from noreply@psychologyboard.gov.au.
The phishing campaign appears to be directly related to previous
campaigns targeting psychologists in Australia in 2016 and 2017 (08
February 2018).

Reminder: Privacy Changes
Data breach notification will become mandatory as of February
2018 for all Australian entities required to comply with the
Privacy Act 1988. When Federal Parliament passed the
Privacy Amendment (Notifiable Data Breaches) Act 2017 last
year, it started a process that means from February 22, 2018, all
entities covered by the Australian Privacy Principles will have
clear obligations to report eligible data breaches within 30 days.
If an eligible data breach is confirmed, entities must provide a
statement to each of the individuals whose data was breached or who
are at risk, and notify the OAIC. Privacy data breaches will also
change in 2018.
RACP: Professional Performance Framework
update
The College supports the fundamental purpose of the framework and
will continue to work closely with the MBA to ensure it implements
a workable system for the health profession. The
2017 MyCPD Framework will not change in 2018. Developments to
reflect incoming changes on requirements relevant for the 2019
MyCPD Framework will be considered with guidance and support from
the RACP CPD Committee (09 February 2018).
