Today, Prime Minister Trudeau announced several major measures being taken to help slow and combat the COVID-19 virus pandemic in Canada. Although immigration is not top of mind for many people at this time, it is helpful to highlight the impact to many Canadian businesses and entrepreneurs with cross-border investments.

Cross-border immigration is being impacted and the situation at the border is changing rapidly. For now, the following changes have been implemented:

  • Canada's border is closed to all those except Canadian citizens, Canadian permanent residents, diplomats, air crews, and immediate family of Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and US citizens; and
  • International arrivals will only be permitted, even for those fitting the exceptions above, at Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport, Calgary International Airport, and Vancouver International Airport.

We are keeping an eye on the rapidly changing situations and will release information for our clients as they become available. Stay tuned.
