Quebec is proposing a regulation that would enable Quebec pharmacists to accept prescriptions issued by professionals from other Canadian provinces and territories, if the prescriber is authorized to issue it in his or her jurisdiction, and would also be authorized to do so if he or she practised in Quebec.
The current Regulation respecting the terms and conditions for the sale of medications (Regulation) authorizes Quebec pharmacists to sell medications listed in Schedule I of this Regulation only on prescription from a professional authorized by Quebec law to issue it.
On May 13, the Office des professions du Québec published the proposed regulation, namely, the Règlement modifiant le Règlement sur les conditions et modalités de vente des médicaments, to allow Quebec pharmacists to sell the listed medications based on a prescription issued by a person authorized to do so under a law of another Canadian province or territory, to the extent that this person would be authorized to issue such prescription if he or she practised in Quebec.
The Office des professions du Québec invites those interested to submit comments on the proposed regulation before June 29, 2020. The address to be used to send comments or to obtain additional information about the proposed regulation is published in the Gazette officielle du Québec.
