On April 27, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) announced a further extension and now all deadlines falling between March 16 and May 18 have been automatically extended until May 19, 2020.

This is the third such extension announced by CIPO as part of its precautionary measures against COVID-19. Our previous reports on these extensions were published March 17  and March 28. Today's announcement also leaves open the possibility that further extensions of time may be granted.

Despite these measures, CIPO remains open for business. As we noted in our report of  March 24, it is as important as ever to have new trademark applications filed expeditiously, especially when filing via Madrid. However, help has been announced for users who miss deadlines for sending communications to the World Intellectual Property Organization because of COVID-19, as noted in our report of April 22.
