March is Fraud Prevention Month at the Competition Bureau. The annual campaign is aimed at raising awareness about the ever-changing landscape of consumer fraud, and informing Canadians on how to protect themselves.

As part of the festivities, the Bureau has released the list of Top 10 Scams plaguing Canadians this year. Compiled by Better Business Bureaus in nine provinces, Quebec's Options Consommateurs, and the Competition Bureau, the list features the CRA tax extortion scam, Kijiji overpayment scams and advance-fee loans.

Other programming includes:

  • March 4 – Webinar: Preventing eCommerce Fraud for online retailers, hosted by Visa Canada
  • March 8 – '2 Good 2 B True' Day Twitter Chat
  • March 10 – Webinar: Preventing Fraud in Your Small Business, hosted by the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses
  • March 16 – Anti-Cartel Day, hosted by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce
