Early Wednesday morning at about 4 a.m. the Toronto Police received a call that someone had spotted a woman climbing up a crane in downtown Toronto, on Wellesley Street between Church and Yonge streets.
An article by Metro News reports that by the time the sun had come up, she had made her way to the top of the crane and scaled down the cable to sit on the hook of the crane.
It was estimated she was about 12 storeys up while sitting on the crane's hook block.
Shortly after the 9-1-1 call a firefighter began his ascent, taking calculated steps while hooking himself to the crane with a harness. He was able to reach her around 8 a.m. at which point he attached a harness to her, and prepped them both for the rappel down to safety.
At about 8:30 a.m. they reached the ground safely, the woman was handcuffed by the police and taken to the hospital as a precaution. She is expected to face a mischief charge.
The police still do not know the reason why she had scaled the crane and sat on the block, but we expect to hear more as this story develops.
