Carey Olsen has appointed James Noble to lead the development of the firm's litigation, insolvency and restructuring offering in Asia.

James, who advises on British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Cayman Islands law, was most recently the managing partner of another offshore law firm in Singapore.

A specialist in complex and high value shareholder litigation, asset recovery, cross-border enforcement and insolvency, James has nearly 20 years' experience working in a wide variety of commercial and trust and estate disputes. Recognised as an expert in asset recovery in the latest edition of Who's Who Legal, James regularly acts in high profile and market leading cases, particularly in connection with companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He has been based in Asia since 2012; first in Hong Kong and then Singapore since 2018.

The addition of a litigation offering in Carey Olsen's Singapore office builds on the existing corporate and finance practice and represents the latest milestone in Carey Olsen's rapidly growing Asia presence.

In June, the firm launched a corporate practice in Hong Kong to complement the firm's existing dispute resolution and insolvency practice, and followed that by adding Bermuda law capabilities with the relocation of Henry Tucker and Kyle Masters.

Commenting on his appointment, James said: "I am thrilled to be joining Carey Olsen, particularly at such an exciting time for the firm in Asia as it continues to expand its presence in both Singapore and Hong Kong. Carey Olsen has quickly earned itself a reputation as an ambitious, dynamic and well-respected offshore law firm, and one which I'm delighted to be a part of."

Alex Ohlsson, group managing partner for Carey Olsen, said: "James has a strong reputation in the offshore and Asian legal markets, which makes him the ideal individual to lead our litigation, insolvency and restructuring offering in Asia. The addition of new legal service offerings in both Singapore and Hong Kong in recent months has been due to significant client demand and we look forward to continued growth and expansion in the region."

Carey Olsen has had a presence in Asia since launching its Singapore office in 2015, which was then followed by the opening of a Hong Kong office in 2016. Between them, the two offices provide on-the-ground legal advice on Bermuda, BVI, Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey law – the only offshore law firm with this capability in Asia – in relation to banking and finance matters, corporate and commercial work, including M&A and capital markets, investment funds, dispute resolution and litigation, insolvency and restructuring.
