In our legal update " Amendments to Arbitration Ordinance (Cap. 609)" dated 30 July 2013, we advised that the Arbitration (Amendment) Bill 2013 (Amendment Ordinance) was passed on 10 July 2013 and that, save and except for the amendments governing the enforcement of Macau arbitral awards, which were to commence on a day to be appointed by the Secretary for Justice by notice published in the gazette, all other amendments had come into operation on 19 July 2013.

In accordance with a notice published in the gazette on 7 October 2013, the Secretary for Justice announced that the amendments governing the enforcement of Macau arbitral awards (see above-mentioned legal update) in section 18 of the Amendment Ordinance and other related amendments thereto shall come into operation on 16 December 2013.
