She spends most of her time doing multi-million pound property deals and running our Probate and Estates practice, but over the next six weeks partner Julie Melia will be focussed on a different set of challenges – Jerusalem artichoke tarts, smoked parmentier veloute and masala chai.

Julie is one of 22 Islanders taking part in this year's Kitchen Inferno event, under the guidance of celebrity chef John Torode.

The chefs, split into two teams, will have to cook a fine dining menu for 150 guests at the Hotel de France in November, assisted by some local culinary luminaries: David Cameron (Liberation Group), Steve and Ellen de Jager Smith (Bohemia) and Phani Kundeti (Hotel de France).

Julie is the only lawyer taking part in the event – she's on the Red Team along with ITV's Mark McQuillan and former Health Minister Ben Shenton and eight others, squaring up against the Blue Team led by Kevin Allenby of Omega Financial Services.

Julie said: "I love cooking and I've been very keen to take part in Kitchen Inferno for a while – the menu that the chefs have put together is very challenging, but we've got some training sessions to get ready for it and hone our skills.

"I'm looking forward to it immensely – there's going to be lots of pressure, lots to handle at once, and we're going to have to work together to get it done – so it's a bit like working in our Property Team really!"

The event is supported by Highlands College, Cimandis and Fungi Delecti and is raising money for Jersey Cheshire Home and Luke's House – a new children's home for disabled children in India.
