On April 29, the Fourth Circuit agreed with an amicus brief from Jenner & Block when it held that North Carolina's denial of medical care benefits to transgender state employees violates the 14th Amendment's Equal Protection Clause.

A Jenner & Block team represented the American Medical Association and seven other leading medical, mental health, and health care organizations who served as amici in Kadel v. Folwell.

"The brief by the American Medical Association is particularly revealing," the court wrote in its opinion. "It elucidates the healthcare profession's understanding of advances in treating gender dysphoria. And it stresses the detrimental consequences that a lack of treatment could have on the wellbeing of individuals struggling with this condition."

The Jenner team included Partners Howard Suskin and Matt Cipolla, Associates Illyana Green, Christina Isnardi, and Connor Rubin, and Paralegal Mary Patston.
