This is a short update to alert our readers to some increases scheduled for next year.

From 1 February 2013, the maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal claims will rise from £72,300 to £74,200. The limit on a week's pay for the purposes of calculating a statutory redundancy payment and the basic and additional awards for unfair dismissal cases increases from £430 to £450.

The maximum basic award or statutory redundancy payment will rise from £12,900 to £13,500. The increase in rates means that the highest possible award in ordinary unfair dismissal claims rises to £87,700. These changes will apply to dismissals which take effect on or after 1 February 2013.

Proposed rates for statutory sick pay and statutory maternity, paternity and adoption pay for next year have also been announced.

The prescribed rate for statutory maternity, paternity and adoption pay and maternity allowance will increase from £135.45 to £136.78 per week. These changes will come into effect on 6 April 2013.

The standard rate of statutory sick pay increases from £85.85 to £86.70 per week from 6 April 2013.
