In the policy paper titled "The future relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union", the UK Government recognises "the high-quality service offered by the UK's rights-granting bodies and courts systems" which "help to make UK one of the best places in the world to protect and enforce IP rights".
The document also re-affirms the UK's intention to remain part of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) and Unitary Patent system after the UK leaves the European Union (EU), and to "work with other contracting states to make sure the Unified Patent Court Agreement can continue on a firm legal basis".
