Effective January 1, 2020, the California Tenant Protection Act
(AB 1482), which affects an estimated 2.4 million rental units in
the state, will extend rent control and eviction control
protections to certain qualifying rental units statewide. However,
this new law will not override the more restrictive rent control
laws already in place in San Francisco and certain other cities and
counties in California.
To prepare California landlords and property owners for
compliance with the new regulations, Wilson Elser's Peter
Catalanotti (Partner-San Francisco) and Jenny Jin (Of Counsel-San
Francisco) offer a comprehensive overview of the statute.
