Fox Rothschild LLP attorney Alejandro Miyar was recently profiled by NBC News in "Young Latinos of the Obama White House: Witnesses, Participants in History," featuring Latino millennials who have worked for Barack Obama's campaigns and administration.
Miyar is now a litigator in private practice in Miami, after a successful rise through all levels of government. From 2009 to 2010, Miyar served in the Obama Administration as a national spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and its Civil Rights Division, working alongside then-Assistant Attorney General and now U.S. Secretary of Labor, Thomas E. Perez. More young Hispanics have worked in the Obama administration than under any previous President.
He previously played a key role in Obama's historic victory in Florida in 2008, serving as a regional communications director for South Florida and as statewide director for Spanish-language media relations.
With respect to the 2008 campaign, Miyar told NBC News: "It was the opportunity of a lifetime. I put a lot of pressure on myself to do the job we had to do. And everything we did in English, we did in Spanish as well."
Miyar previously worked as press secretary for the Florida Democratic Party in 2007-08, and as press secretary and senior advisor to the Mayor of Miami, Manuel "Manny" A. Diaz from 2004 through 2007.
At Fox, Miyar now practices commercial and business litigation in state and federal court.
Miyar graduated with honors from the University of Miami School of Law and holds a B.A. from Haverford College.
