Fox Rothschild has agreed to merge with the Minneapolis-based law firm of Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly. The deal will be effective January 4, 2016, and will increase the number of attorneys practicing at the firm to more than 700 in 12 states.

"This deal helps achieve two strategic goals," Fox Rothschild Managing Partner Mark L. Silow said in an interview. "It fills out our footprint by allowing us to enter Minneapolis, which is a vibrant metropolitan area. And it adds depth in two key practice areas — commercial litigation and corporate and M&A, specifically in the medical technology area. We also like some of the niche areas such as executive compensation."

Oppenheimer's Managing Partner Brad Keil said the deal enables his firm "to provide our clients with all the benefits of a large, full-service firm, with a national footprint, while maintaining the personal touch of a mid-sized firm."
