On June 13, NIST published guidance for defense contractors
handling controlled unclassified information ("CUI"). Special Publication 800-171A, "Assessing
Security Requirements for Controlled Unclassified Information
(CUI)," provides a roadmap for conducting cybersecurity
assessments in compliance with DFARS 252.204-7012 and NIST Special
Publication 800-171. NIST subsequently published a bulletin on July 27 that
summarizes the guidance in Special Publication 800-171A.
