On April 1, 2016, in response to comments received on proposed rules released Aug. 20, 2015, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office released amendments to the rules of practice for trials before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. These amendments, in the form of final rules, become effective on May 2, 2016, and apply to "all AIA petitions filed on or after the effective date and to any ongoing AIA preliminary proceeding or trial before the Office." In this article, Finnegan attorneys Jason E.
