In March, a California state court approved a $39M settlement
against a medical center in southern California. The case stemmed
from a security breach of patients' personal health
information, which was made publicly accessible. The medical center
notified the approximately 31,000 affected patients, who in turn
filed consolidated class actions, alleging negligence and
violations of the California Unfair Competition Law and the
California Business and Professions Code, among other claims.
