The Florida Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) met in an extended session on April 16, and approved a total of eight ballot measures to revise the Florida Constitution. This extended session acted as the final meeting for the CRC, as it addressed all pending proposals still before it.

The electorate will vote on the eight ballot measures in the November election, and any measure must receive 60 percent voter approval for the proposed Constitutional Amendment to take effect.

Roughly 20 proposals to amend the Florida Constitution are integrated into the ballot measures, which are split among six measures that contain proposed amendments grouped by subject area, and two single amendment measures.

While a summary of the ballot measures is provided below, a few highlights of proposed constitutional amendments that will appear on the November ballot are:

  • A prohibition on the judiciary from applying any deference to an agency's interpretation of statutes or its own rules (grouped with other ballot measures);
  • Creation of eight-year term limits for school board members (grouped with other ballot measures);
  • The creation of a six-year lobbying prohibition for state and local elected officials, as well as certain governmental agency heads, as it relates to appearing before the body where they were elected or employed (individual ballot measure);
  • A prohibition on greyhound racing (individual ballot measure).

The CRC also stated that it will submit a formal report to the Florida Secretary of State as soon as possible, which will discharge the duties of the CRC. The next constitution revision commission will form in 2037 and end in 2038.
