In prepared remarks delivered by Administrator Seema Verma on September 27, 2018 at the 2018 Medicaid Managed Care Summit, the Administrator previewed the release of an impending guidance document on a new/updated "work requirement" demonstration. As noted in the prepared remarks:

Additionally, in January, we released a groundbreaking new demonstration opportunity in response to state requests to test work and community engagement incentives among able-bodied adult beneficiaries. This guidance was followed by four approvals of innovative Medicaid demonstrations.

We are committed to this issue and we are moving closer to approving even more state waivers.

As such, I'm happy to share with you today that we have finalized the terms for our next innovative community engagement demonstration, which we expect to deliver to the state very soon. So stay tuned!

As our readers will recall, we have previously covered the January "work requirement" announcement. Since that time, four states (New Hampshire, Indiana, Arkansas, and Kentucky) has received approval from CMS to implement work requirement/community engagement requirements (note that Kentucky's waiver is subject to litigation and has been blocked by a Judge). Eight states current have work requirement requests pending with the Secretary.

While the remarks by the Administrator have not disclosed the content of the upcoming Guidance, we will report on them here when they are released.
