The Commission started a consultation on a preliminary list of products from the US on which the EU may take countermeasures in the context of the ongoing Boeing dispute at the WTO.

Colombia launches safeguard investigation on sheets of cardboard and polyethylene

On April 16, 2019, Colombia notified the WTO's Committee on Safeguards that it initiated on April 9, 2019, a safeguard investigation on certain sheets of cardboard and polyethylene.

Panama launches safeguard investigation on certain swine meat

On May 14, 2019, Panama notified the WTO's Committee on Safeguards that it had decided to initiate on May 3, 2019, a safeguard investigation on certain fresh, chilled or frozen meat of swine.

On May 27, 2019, Morocco notified the WTO's Committee on Safeguards that it initiated on May 29, 2019, a safeguard investigation on hot-rolled sheets of steel.

Canada appeals panel report regarding US dumping duties on Canadian lumber

Canada filed an appeal on June 4, 2019, concerning the WTO panel report in the case brought by Canada in "United States - Anti-Dumping Measures Applying Differential Pricing Methodology to Softwood Lumber from Canada" (DS534).

PANELS ESTABLISHED

WTO establishes panel to review Turkish duties on Thai air conditioners

At a meeting of the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) on April 11, 2019, WTO members agreed to Thailand's request for the establishment of a dispute panel to rule on duties levied by Turkey on imported Thai air conditioners.

Panel established to rule on measures imposed by Qatar on goods from the UAE

At a meeting of the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) on May 28, 2019, WTO members agreed to establish a panel to rule on measures imposed by Qatar relating to the importing, stocking, distribution, marketing or sale of goods from the United Arab Emirates. The DSB also considered a request from the European Union for a panel to rule on anti-dumping and countervailing duties imposed by the United States on imported ripe olives from Spain.

Panels to review US duties on Spanish olives, Indonesian compliance with chicken ruling

At a meeting of the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) on June 24, 2019, WTO members agreed to a request from the European Union for a dispute panel to review anti-dumping and countervailing duties imposed by the United States on imported olives from Spain. Members also agreed to Brazil's request for a panel to examine whether Indonesia has complied with an earlier WTO ruling regarding measures impeding the import of chicken meat and chicken products.

ADOPTED PANEL REPORTS

Members adopt national security ruling on Russian Federation's transit restrictions

The Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) on April 26, 2019, formally adopted a panel ruling clarifying the use of national security exceptions to WTO rules as invoked in the trade dispute between the Russian Federation and Ukraine over transit restrictions.

Appellate Body issues report regarding Korean restrictions on Japanese food imports
