The Implementing Regulations for Industrial Drawings & Designs Law No. 6 of 2006 have been issued in Bahrain with immediate effect from 25th February 2010.
Broad changes are evident including the following:
- Multiple Designs Allowed
- Multiple designs up to 50 designs are now allowed in a single application for the same article where the designs are not materially different and fall in the same class.
Only 1 Renewal Necessary
The initial term of the registration is 10 years, which is
renewable for a further term of five years.
Previously, the initial term was five years, which was renewable
for an additional two more terms of five years each.
Thus, the new position means that the registrant need only apply once to renew its registration to obtain the maximum coverage.
Annuity Fees payable
Annuity fees are payable from the 2nd year to the 15th year.
Under the old regime, no annuity fees were payable.
Increased Official Fees
Official fees across a whole suite of matters ranging from filing,
publication, registration and recordal of change of address &
name have been increased substantially. Also, new official fees
have been introduced for transactions such as amendment and
addition to a design application.
