On 2 March 2011 the Investigations Division of the CNC extended the formal investigations that it is undertaking in case S/0244/10 Navieras, commenced on 7 July 2010, to include Servicios y Concesiones Marítimas Ibicencas, S.A. ('Servicios'). The investigation relates to practices suspected of breaching article 1 of the SCA.

These proceedings were opened following a confidential probe by the Investigations Division and as a result of on-site inspections carried out on 11 and 12 May 2010 at the premises of various companies in the regular maritime passenger and cargo transport sector between the Spanish mainland and the Balearic Islands and inter-island lines.

The Investigations Division has gathered information that could point to the participation of Servicios in possible anti-competitive practices, consisting of agreements to share the market and to limit or control production on the regular maritime passenger line between the Balearic Islands of Ibiza and Formentera.

The current maximum period of 18 months for the investigation of the case and its resolution by the CNC that began on 7 July 2010 remains unchanged. The opening of proceedings does not prejudge the final outcome of the investigation
