The "ser korycinski swojski", oval-shaped, soft cheese from the northeastern Podlasie region is Poland's 35th product to be granted the geographical indication (GI) status by the European Commission.

As a result of the registration, the cheese must be at least partially manufactured in its geographical location or origin.

The cheese has been the specialty of the Korycin village for many generations. It is made of cow's milk mixed with salt and rennet, and flavored with fresh spices and herbs which may include garlic, paprika, dill, chives, basil, mint and marjoram.

Other Polish GIs include bryndza podhalanska (a highland cheese), kielbasa Llsiecka (a smoked sausage from the Malopolska region), karp zatorski (carp from Zator region) and various kinds of mead.
