Parliament has amended current legislation governing the import duty regime of Ukraine. The new regime will be effective from 22 June 1997, and the amendments may be summerised as follows:

  • preferential import duty at a rate of 0% no longer apples to goods manufactured in developing countries (the previous list included 145 developing countries).
  • The relieved import duty rates apply to goods manufactured in countries which have signed trade agreements with Ukraine for the most-favoured-nation-treatment. Countries which qualify for regimes of favourable trade include:

Austria, Algeria, Argentina, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Guinea, Greece, Georgia, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kirzigstan, Korean People's Democratic Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Mongolia, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, USA, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yugoslavia;

  • relieved import duty rate also apply to goods manufactured in countries which have entered into free trade agreements with Ukraine, namely:

Azerbaidjan, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan;
