Law no.60/2016, dated 2.6.2016 "On Whistleblowing and Whistleblowers Protection" (the 'Law') entered into force since July 2016, but for private entities any related obligation is effective starting from July 1, 2017.

According to the Law, employers with more than 100 employees must establish an Internal Responsible Whistleblowing Unit, responsible for the whistleblowing recording, relevant administrative investigation and examination.

The Law provides for a number of violations and the relevant penalties and sanctions. Retaliation against whistleblowers or failure to fulfill the obligations regarding the establishment of Internal Responsible Whistleblowing Unit is subject to fines ranging from 100.000 ALL up to 500.000 ALL.
