Launch of the Blockchain Hackathon by Thrive: A survey carried out recently shows that 70% of the talent required for the blockchain industry is common to that of the people working in the gaming and financial sectors – Parliamentary Secretary Silvio Schembri

Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation Silvio Schembri launched the Thrive Blockchain Hackathon which is being held between the 23rd and 24th July at the Life Sciences Park. This event has the aim of attracting talent towards this new economic sector.

"A survey carried out recently shows how 70% of the talent required for this industry is common to that of people working in the gaming and financial sectors—a result that strengthens our endeavour to build an ecosystem around these areas. We are working to strengthen our work force, and in fact the University of Malta will be offering specialised blockchain courses with the aim of having the first graduates in the field at a time when the market would have started to mature and stabilise", said Parliamentary Secretary Schembri. Silvio Schembri reiterated the Maltese Government's commitment to continue investing in the human resource and human capital.

Chief Strategy Officer for Thrive Labs Giuseppe Scordino said that the aim of the event is to attract talent to 'the blockchain island'. He expressed his satisfaction over Thrive Labs' commitment to expanding its footprint in Malta and being part of the Maltese Government's vision. "Thrive is a project that was born more than a year ago here in Malta with a goal to become pioneers in advertising crypto business. In its early stages, several investors did not understand our choice of Malta, but we never changed our mind and strongly believed in the government's foresight and commitment regarding blockchain and digital innovation", said Giuseppe Scordino.

The Thrive Blockchain Hackathon attracted the interest of 20 participants coming from software development backgrounds. The event is aimed at finding four individuals who would join the Thrive Team in their journey towards creating a decentralised ad marketplace.
