Iran has updated the process for trademark registrations. The updates are as follows:

There are two systems available for registrations, The Madrid System and the National Registration System.

The Madrid System has been introduced to compliment the current National system. By using the Madrid system, an announcement must be published in the official gazette at least once, while for the National system the announcement must be published twice.

Any interested party then has 30 days to file an opposition to the application should the need arise. Following this period a certificate may then be issued.

Due to arrears of the registration office the official gazette does not publish the announcements for the Madrid system. It is therefore important to note that applications that go through the Madrid system are not complete unless the announcement is published.

There will be no access to legal protection should this process not be completed correctly and a certificate is issued.
