The validity of a design registration in Syria is for five years, renewable for two further periods. A grace period of six months is allowed for late renewal of a design registration against payment of the prescribed lateness fine. The procedures for the registration is that once an application is filed with all requirements, a committee set up by the Proprietary Protection Department will search the local markets for any similar or identical models in order to decide to accept or refuse the application.
