The UCT GSB Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship has partnered with the Grunin Center for Law and Social Entrepreneurship at NYU School of Law to bring you the three part 'Legal Practice for Impact Investing' webinar for free. The goal of this webinar is 'to equip impact investing professionals, particularly lawyers, with the knowledge and skills to effectively serve high impact organisations wanting to raise capital'.
The relevance of this to the readers of this #IPLiveBlog is that social entrepreneurship relies on innovation and intellectual property to facilitate the impact they seek to make. As the Grunin Centre's website suggests '(We work) to improve the legal systems that affect social entrepreneurs—those leaders who possess a powerful, new, system-changing idea to directly address an intractable social need and implement pattern-breaking solutions to serve the common good.'
The first webinar is on 19 July 2018 and is titled Embedding Impact in Deal Structures and Terms: Governance, Alignment, and Innovation which looks really exciting and more information on this webinar can be found here.
The reason that we'll be attending the webinar is that we'd like to gain insights into the legal issues that these impact investing vehicles may face. We are also looking to hearing from the leading minds on this topic internationally such as the course convenors Associate Professor Deborah Burand (Grunin Centre for Law and Social Entrepreneurship, NYU and Dr. Susan de Witt (UCT GSB's Bertha Centre).
