Guernsey's status as a global finance centre of excellence has been endorsed with the appointment of Lyndon Trott, who counts Chairman of Guernsey Finance among his many roles, as an independent trustee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association's (CPA) trust funds.

Deputy Trott is he first States of Guernsey (of which he is Vice President of the Policy & Resources Committee) member to hold such a role.

He was short-listed after applying having confirmed in October that the CPA had asked for expressions of interest in the role from its 17,000.

"From an impressive international shortlist, we learned today that the application was successful and that the international executive committee has endorsed the appointment," he said in a personal statement to the States. "This is clearly an honour and privilege for me personally, but in particular for our jurisdiction as it is the first time that one of our members has held this office.

"This sends out a very strong message, that our jurisdiction is recognised as a globally respected, international financial services centre of excellence."

Deputy Trott will be working alongside the Secretary-General and the Treasurer of CPA International for a three-year term.
