Lawyers from Carey Olsen's corporate team in the Cayman Islands have advised next-generation visual effects company Maximus on its joint venture with IMAX Corporation (IMAX) to bring artificial intelligence (AI) video enhancement technology to home entertainment.

The new joint venture, IMAX AI, will advance AI-based solutions for ultra-high definition (UHD) 4K enhancement across streaming services, smart devices, new and library content, as well as real-time enhancement of live entertainment and sports.

It will see IMAX leverage its leading technologies and brand, relationships with creators and content owners, and ownership of high-resolution content, while Maximus will bring its extensive research and development experience in AI video enhancement, including the proprietary algorithms it has already developed, tested, and put into production to enhance content to UHD 4K and even 8K+ in near real time.

Maximus founder Dr Daniel Nadler will serve as a special advisor to the IMAX Board of Directors. Dr Nadler previously founded Kensho Technologies (Kensho), the artificial intelligence firm he sold in 2018 having established Kensho as the world's most valuable independently owned AI company at the time.

Working alongside lead counsel Goodwin Procter LLP, the Carey Olsen team advising Maximus on the Cayman legal and regulatory aspects of the joint venture comprised partner Nick Bullmore and counsel Dylan Wiltermuth.

Nick said: "We were delighted to advise Daniel and the team at Maximus on their exciting partnership with IMAX, one that has the potential to revolutionise how we consume and enjoy home entertainment."
