Canada's anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) has introduced new
regimes governing the sending of commercial electronic messages and
the installation of computer programs. The anti-spam provisions
came into effect on July 1, 2014, and additional provisions
regarding the installation of computer programs will come into
effect on January 15, 2015.
Davis LLP's Bill Hearn moderated a panel discussion at the
Lexpert professional development course Information Privacy and
Data Protection on November 27, 2014. Titled "How Strong Is
Your CASL? A Five-Month-In Anti-Spam Check-Up," the session
featured expert speakers from Aimia, RBC and the Canadian Marketing
Association, who shared their approaches to compliance and
dissected seven key issues for businesses in the implementation of
CASL.
