The COVID-19 global pandemic pushed up the death rate and drove down immigration levels due to restrictions on international travel, causing Canada's population growth rate to hit a record low, reports Statistics Canada.
In its latest Canadian population estimates, the federal government's national statistical agency details the rollercoaster ride that has been population growth in Canada over the past year.
After hitting the highest recorded level of population growth in the third quarter of last year due to high immigration levels, Canada's rate of population growth plummeted during the second quarter of this year to the lowest level since records began.
