On June 03, 2003, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) launched its first IP (Intellectual Property) education website for children, www.iperckidz.gov.sg and an interactive CD-ROM entitled "A Thief, A Liar & The Ignoramuses". Both these products also serve as platforms to introduce its latest mascot for intellectual property, Detective IP, to the school sector.
The iperckidz website is a multimedia website, functioning as an education resource that provides children of school-going age with easy to understand facts on intellectual property. It also features a discussion forum for students to post their IP-related queries online, where their questions will be answered by Detective IP.
The Detective IP CD-ROM is designed to help the children attain basic knowledge on intellectual property as they help the character solve his IP-related cases. Players journey through each of four different games in the CD-ROM, investigating IP-related cases. In the process, they will learn the fundamentals of trade marks, patents, designs and copyrights. As players complete a quiz successfully, they will graduate to become Junior IP Detectives. From here, they may move on to two higher levels of quizzes at the iperckidz website and ultimately emerge as Super Ace Detectives. Players who achieve the Super Ace Detective status will be rewarded with limited editions of a Detective IP collateral by IPOS.
IPOS intends to utilise the iperckidz website and the Detective IP CD-ROM as learning resources for its school programmes and as resource tools for its educational initiatives. In addition, Detective IP will be making appearances at roadshows to schools to introduce and promote the use of these entertaining and interactive resources.
This latest move by IPOS is a positive step towards grooming future IP-savvy entrepreneurs and innovators in Singapore.
