Team DQ are in need of new shoe leather after a very busy few months of business development and talks.
In conjunction with DQ renewing its sponsorship of the Association of Corporate Service Provider's seminar programme, Senior Associate Leanne McKeown addressed the ACSP's packed AGM at the end of October on the topic of "Employment Law Developments – Equality and Whistleblowing". Leanne's offer to provide a template whistle blowing policy was very well received and saw delegates forming an orderly queue to leave their business cards.
Throughout November, DQ continued to be active on the speaking front with Sinead O'Connor and Libby Gordon addressing the Insurance Institute regulatory update, also sponsored by DQ and Sinead also chairing and speaking at the Alliance of Isle of Man Compliance Professionals' MLRO Master Class. There were in excess of 100 people at each event which gave DQ excellent opportunities to showcase the knowledge and technical expertise of team members.
Director Mark Dougherty took the speaking baton to the UK when he co-presented with Dick Welsh of the Isle of Man shipping registry on the benefits of the Isle of Man as a location of choice for shipping. The presentation was to the shipping team in Watson Farley Williams in London who are one of the leading international law firms in the shipping sector and it was extremely well received.
Flying the DQ flag further afield, Mark attended the TAGLaw Fall International Conference in Washington DC where he had the honour of introducing the keynote speaker, Greg Coleman. Greg is a retired FBI Special Agent who was presenting on the topic 'Inside the Investigation: The Wolf of Wall Street". Look out for a full report, coming soon.
In addition to several other trips to London by various members of the team where meetings have been held with a range of clients and introducers, a very productive trip to the Channel Islands was also undertaken. Giles Hill, Stephen Dougherty and Sinead O'Connor visited law firms in both Jersey and Guernsey giving an overview of DQ and discussing opportunities to work together.
Upskilling also continued apace during November with several conferences and briefings being attended both on and off Island. The AMLP Forum, Pinsent Mason's Tax Risk conference and the Employment Lawyers Association two day residential "Introduction to Employment Law" were just some of the events attended.
