Legal regulations and judicial practices are in a continuous transformation in order to meet the needs arising from new technological developments. Juridical authorities in different jurisdictions are facing new and highly sophisticated conflicts which are increasing day by day in practice of intellectual property. This global change also necessitates an international information exchange to have an idea on law practitioners' different approach to different problems.
In this regard, WIPO has taken an important step and launched "WIPO Lex-Judgments", a free-access database where local judicial decisions related to Intellectual Property from different jurisdictions, are served, as of 24 September 2020. WIPO Lex-Judgments is expected to guide not only law practitioners such as judges and attorneys, but also policy makers and academics from around the world.
"WIPO Lex" which provides free access to the laws, regulations and treaties in force and their contents in member countries, regarding Intellectual Property, has been previously launched in 2018 by WIPO. This time, through WIPO Lex-Judgments, the service of accessing the judicial decisions of member states, has recently been included to the system, which provides the users the opportunity to have an idea about how the regulations are applied in practice and to make a free research in entire content.
WIPO Lex-Judgments is expected to make contribution in dispute resolution related to Intellectual Property held by judicial units and support policy makers in implementing new approaches. Through WIPO Lex-Judgments, the users will have an opportunity to review and examine the common and/or similar disputes which were already experienced in other jurisdictions and be able to benefit from others' prior experiences in their own local practice.
Initially, WIPO Lex-Judgments enables the users to enjoy free access over 400 domestic court orders and related contents of 10 participating member states from Latin America, Caribbean and Spain. WIPO aims to increase the number of participating member states and develop the technical infrastructure of the system in a way to provide more efficient search in different languages.
WIPO Lex-Judgments is accessible through this link, and only available in Arabic, Chinese, French, English, Spanish and Russian for now.
