Janie Schulman spoke to Marketplace about Morrison & Foerster's third COVID-19 Impact Survey, which found that lawyers expect pandemic-related lawsuits to skyrocket in 2021.

"A lot of people are losing their jobs and feeling vulnerable, and plaintiffs' lawyers are smart and creative," Janie said.

She added that whenever there's great upheaval – during a global pandemic, for example – it's only natural that employees may look for someone to blame or some way to make money after a job loss caused by the economic downturn. She estimates there's been nearly 1,500 COVID-related legal cases, with many more lawsuits to come.

"The most cases that have come up have to do with people who claim entitlement to leaves of absence or sick leave or leave to care for others," she said.
