Vice President Kamala D. Harris swore in Janet L. Yellen as Secretary of the Treasury. The U.S. Senate confirmed her nomination by an 84-15 vote. In a letter to the Treasury's staff, Secretary Yellen stated:

"[A]s we work to recover from this pandemic, we cannot forget about the Department's usual business; the essential work that ranges from overseeing financial markets, to managing the nation's finances, to strengthening the global economy and fighting illicit finance in partnership with America's allies."

Secretary Yellen previously served as Chair of the Council of Economic Advisors and Chair of the Federal Reserve Board. She will be the first person to have served in all three positions.
